Life of Bidri: 600 Years of Survival | Sahapedia-UNESCO Fellowship 2017

Life of Bidri: 600 Years of Survival | Sahapedia-UNESCO Fellowship 2017

This fellowship was received by our network member, Monisha Damodaran. Through this fellowship, Monisha’s idea was to explore and document different types of Bidri work and patterns under each, including the Bidribidri craft practices that are not practiced today.

Multiple artisans and resource persons from our network mentored the fellowship. We facilitated meetings with these resource persons that helped Monisha to study and document the evolution of Bidri craft and develop a narrative on the life cycle of the craft.

An audio-visual documentary was also developed through oral histories of master artisans and their families, photo and video documentation of the craft practices, processes and techniques.
