A photograph of vocational training carried out in Mahmud Gawan Madrasa during the erstwhile Nizam Dominion as part of Gawan Museum Trust collection in BHC Archives.

BHC houses people’s archives of Bidar and aspires to become a learning museum. It departs from the conventional imagination of a museum that tends to fossilise history, rely upon expert-driven curations, and restrict access by copyright protected collections, towards recognising the need to incorporate cultural, Institutional and social history of the place to:

  • Creating ways for the residents to remember, reconnect and renarrate their inherited legacies;
  • Sensitise people to Police history, its evolution and humanised facets of police department and other institutions in Bidar;
  • Resource centre for local residents, young scholars and regional universities alike to learn, add and expand various historical aspects of Bidar;
  • Recognize local collectors as ‘Citizen curators' of public history and memory.
