by Aruvu Collaboratort & KHPT | Narrative Report | Long-term Engagement | ISBN:978-81-960323-5-7 |2025

This is a narrative report that synthesises our learnings from on-ground engagements to learn and address place-based manifestations of SDoH (Social Determinants of Health) in the 7 GPs in Kundapura Taluk. The report is also intended to serve as a learning artefact for anyone interested in place-first approach through practice-based action research. Particularly the Structure of Engagement, Catalog of artefacts/methods and Place-based Glossary of SDoH are transferable when co-produced in other places. The report covers our shared experience and reflections on the vision, objective, approach, structure of engagements, engagements that emerged from the place and actions co-imagined within the engagements. Samagra Arogya is a long-term place-based collaborative engagement to understand and respond to Social Determinants of Health at the Gram Panchayat level. All actions are carried out through the ‘structure of engagement’ co-developed by the transdisciplinary team in Samagra Arogya to learn and visiblise the differential needs of the communities, co-designing people-centric interventions with communities and Gram Panchayat, creating moments to learn, adapt and advocate newer governance systems attuned to the place and its people in the GPs.
We envision each Gram Panchayat to be an autonomous, decentralised entity that carries out a continuous and sustained practice driven responses through participatory action research to understand the historic and emerging needs of their communities, to plan and iteratively implement interventions.
The report covers the vision, objective, approach, structure of engagements, engagements that emerged from the place and actions co-imagined within the engagements.
